Franklin 4 The Cure, an all day event which includes "Run 4 The Cure" 5K run/walk and "Concert 4 The Cure," will take place on Saturday, September 18th, 2010 in the Westhaven community in West Franklin off New Highway 96W. The race portion of the event will take place in the morning with the concert in the evening. Both are open to the public.
Run 4 the Cure is a certified 5K route (3.1 miles) that will appeal to everyone, from the casual walker to the serious runner. The event will start at 7:30 a.m. with two kids fun runs afterward. The run/walk will start and finish at the Westhaven Town Center. Proceeds from both events will go to support Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. The 2009 events raised almost $54,000 in total and event organizers hope to double that amount in 2010.
Entry fee for the 5K is $25, $29 after September 4th and before September 17th and $35 day of race. A t-shirt is guaranteed for those who register by September 4 and first come, first served after that. Children can run or walk Lily's Rocket Run (1/3 mile) or Cooper's Fun Run (1/4 mile) for $12. This includes a t-shirt, medal and children activities after the run. Front Street will be temporarily changed to "Hope Street" in the festival area where kids will enjoy inflatables, face painting, and other activities geared for great family fun. Register for the run/walk at www.Franklin4theCure.org or at Active.com.
The Concert 4 The Cure, now in its 5th year, was started by the four sons of Theresa Stacey, after their beloved mother lost her twelve year battle with the disease in 2001. Her courageous fight became an inspiration to everyone she touched. The Stacey family has raised over $140,000 through these concerts and feels a sense of purpose behind their desire to organize them.
"We are excited to have this opportunity to honor our mother with this fifth Concert 4 The Cure. We are fortunate to have so many caring people join us in our campaign to fight cancer by funding research," they said.
Concert 4 The Cure - "An Evening with Heidi Newfield", will take place on Saturday, September 18th on the Great Lawn at the Westhaven Residents Club, located at 401 Cheltenham Avenue in Franklin, Tennessee. Doors will open promptly at 5:30 p.m. before Newfield takes the stage at 7 p.m. Fresh off the helm of the inaugural Country Throwdown Tour, Newfield will perform such hits as “Johnny and June” and “Cry, Cry (‘Til The Sun Shines)” from her critically-acclaimed 2008 debut solo album, What Am I Waiting For, as well as crowd favorites “Pour Me,” “It’s A Heartache,” and “On A Night Like This” from her days as the frontwoman for Trick Pony. Newfield is currently in the studio with renowned producer Blake Chancey (known for his work with the Dixie Chicks and Montgomery Gentry) working on her highly anticipated follow-up album, slated for release in early 2011 on Curb Records.
Tickets to the concert are now available at www.Franklin4theCure.com for $20 and $10 for children 5 to 12. Children under 5 attend for free. Beverages and food will be available for purchase at The Great Lawn. A limited number of VIP Experience tickets are available for $125 per person and include a private buffet dinner, open bar and a premier, birds-eye viewing location from the second floor balcony overlooking the stage.
The Great Lawn at Westhaven is a beautiful setting to enjoy an evening under the stars while listening to great music!
Additional activities include a silent auction at the concert with airline tickets, gift certificates, dinners, award show tickets and much, much more. Each person's bid can make a difference and help this event raise more money for the fight against cancer.
Sponsorships are still available, and additional silent auction donations are welcome. Sponsorship packages for Franklin 4 The Cure are also available by visiting Franklin4theCure.org.
